Smile Can't boot from a floppy!!!!!

I am building a P-4 computer using an ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard. (Intel 2.8 Processor).

I am trying to update / upgrade the BIOS. I followed the instructions from the ASUS users manual, but the BIOS was not changed.

Using XP, the ASUS manual told me to create a bootable floppy - which I did. It told me to copy AFUDOS and the new BIOS program to the floppy - which I did. It then told me to place the floppy in the drive (A and boot. I did so, but - it went directly into Win XP !!!

I went into the BIOS and on the first "page" of the BIOS screen my floopy drive was not listed. However, under Win XP I can see my floppy drive, and it seems to work.

Question: How can I update the BIOS via the floppy method?

Question: How do get to a MS-DOS prompt in Win XP?

Please help.

You'll need to set the boot order to Floppy first in BIOS before you can update it.

Windows XP doesn't have DOS - only the command prompt, go to Run and type 'command' (no quotes) or find command prompt in Accessories.

Do you have a particular reason to update your bios? If not, leave it alone if everything works properly.
