Thermal Pad and Grease??
I recently purchased an AMD Athlon 64 2800+ with the HS/F and I used artic silver ceramique thermal compound to transfer heat. I did not realize that the HS already had a thermal pad. Will using both cause my system to malfuntion. So far my system is running pretty smooth and the CPU is at 30 degrees celcius.

Where is the 30c reading from? Bios or program, you can use either thermal paste or pad...not both. Most of the time this will cause the chip to heat up so im kinda sceptical on the 30c reading.

Well, one reason you don't want to use "grease" on a retail HS/fan combo (AMD or Intel) is that it technically voids the 3 year warranty. Use just the stock pad. And, in therory at least, you don't want to use both as it adds another thermal layer for heat to transfer thru which will lower efficiency.

thanks for your help. unfortunately I have messed the thermal pad up I guess. I just took the hs/f off and cleaned it up. I currently have just the ceramique on it. I plan on upgrading processors soon, so next time I know to just use the regular thermal pad. I know, I am such a newbie, lol
