Desktop vs Laptop
I have to purchase a new system because I currently have a 750 mhz system has lots of ram but it just won't handle the new software I purchased.
I just installed Macromedia MX Studio 2004 and noticed in some applications the paint brush, eraser and the smudge tool won't show where the cursor is when I move towards the work window. If I move my mouse towards the menu pics it seems to be fine... People in the Macromedia area tell me it is resourses... I shut a bunch of things off but still have a problem. Maybe it's time for an upgrade. I have a wireless network and was thinking about getting a laptop just so I could move around and not get stuck her at the desk. Not sure if a laptop would be good because if a 15 or a 17 inch screen would not be to good for making graphics and web pages. I am not even sure if a laptop is good enough or good for long term... I am even worried about having to use a scanner and other goodies. I would like to know what you all think... I am exhausted just thinking about it... Thanks Steve

I would think desktops would probably be better for that kind of stuff, larger sreen, easier to upgrade, maybe more powerful...

Some of the really high end laptops can compare with a desktop.

Desktop = you can upgrade with much ease.
Laptop = too expensive to upgrade. Desktop = lots of elbow room if you need to work on it. Laptop = movility Desktop = you could built your own. ( your own specs) Laptop = you could built, but most people here would agree that a desktop in the long run is better. Most laptop now a days are just as powerfull as desktop, including all the bells and whitles. It all comes down to what you need it for? how is it gonna affect my job performance? comfort? Budget? etc. I can tell you, from my personal experience (working in a engineering enviroment) that I have both. I love my desktop in my office, is a very powerfull machine, due to all the drawings and graphics 3d imaging I have to deal with every day. But also have 2 laptops in my Lab, due mostly because of the versatility, ease of movement. My boss insisted that I should've gotten a movil desktop, for the Lab. I said no way. I have no space in my lab for a bulky desktop. hope this helps. regards...

If you shop around there are some very good high-end laptops on the market these days but they come with a hefty price tag, normally you're looking half the price of a desktop added on again for an equivalent. Some of the new laptops are actually good for games (very limited range though). But obviously the latop's advantage over the desktop is the portability.

Very true Sony VAIO are also worth considering, batteries the most reliable I have found so far. My one's hav'nt stopped holding a charge properly let (had it for 4 years) but some of their new laptops look quite tasty!
