Hi,
I am really into building computers although most people my age dont really think about them but enjoy playing games on them, i am 14 years old and i am thinking of building my first PC, But the thing is i want to make a fair computer and not spend alot of money on it, i dont want a really extremly advanced computer or any thing i just wanna try out building pc's, I need your help on sudgesting the stuff i should buy, as for the case, monitor, and keyboard it is easy for me i can go to the nearby thrift store and get them for less than 25$ and the mouse i can get for as low as 1$, Help me out with the other parts (as Cheap as possible, good quality as well) i wish if you can point out some good parts for me and i would be grateful! Welcome to PC Mech forums
![]() For the other parts, it's generally best to asses a set clear budget - inexpensive to me is 300 USD, but could mean 100 USD to you. I can think of a PC and suggest parts that come out to be around 300 USD without the monitor. First, do you have a preference on anything...preferably on the CPU (Intel or AMD?) kram

Hey,
Both Intel and AMD are similar - it just depends whether you had a predetermined choice or something. They are both good - that's why both of them are still in competition . I personally prefer Intel, but some here like AMD Athlon. Since the release of the Celeron D processors, an Intel budget build is possible. Tell me what you think about the processors. Also, 200 USD is a pretty tight budget...thought I should tell you.Hope that helps, kram |

I think i would go with a used Intel maybe pentium 2 or 3, and yes i know the budget is tight because i am still new and trying stuff out and i dont want to spend alot of money and then findout that the thing isnt working or so, you know

Umm if you dont need a computer then dont get one because you cant get much with $200. I really suggest that you save up your money and get a computer that you would be satisfied with.

My suggestion ...and the way I started.........back when a 90 mhz pentium was a bad ass computer.....lol...bought a motherboard and processor....and picked up used parts at a computer show............where I learned the most was taking used unknown parts and getting them to work together.....hunting down drivers and the like......really builds your trouble shooting skills....If you really want something to practice and learn with......I'll send you a box with miscellaneous modems......video cards, Pci and Isa.....network cards and a couple of sound cards.....a 1 gig hdd and an ATX motherboard with a 1st generation pentium and some memory that is guaranteed to post for about $40.00. It'll be a 133 or maybe a 166 processor....but eventually after you get it working......maybe you could load Linux......maybe make a router or something out of it.........If you are interested......let me know if you are dial up or broadband......I'll include drivers to get you online with it......you can hunt and find the rest.....
