I recently resurrected an old 486-dx4/120 pc for my wife as a first computer. It runs fine but the old modem connects at 14.4 and seems error prone.
Could someone recommend a good compatable 56k for this beast? There are isa and pci slots available.

Make sure you don't get a windmodem for that system. Get either an ISA controller based modem like the Supra Express or a good external modem.

I would not put a PCI modem into a 486, even if it is hardware controlled. Go with a good ISA modem - the Supra Express is ideal for that beast.
