Hi there,

I seem to have a problem in building my PC, simply my Geforce 2 GTS leaves the PC enable to post (3 Xtra bleeps or simply no video) but my Voodoo3 works without a problem. I have sent the card to be tested and it checked out ok. I Also tried the card out in a friends PC (Identical specs) and it worked fine.

Anyone have any clue why this is?

BTW MOBO is an Abit KTA RAID, CPU = Duron 800.

Thanks, XTech.

Are these both AGP or is the voodoo a pci?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS and then trying again with Geforce 2?

Let's go a different route...have you reseated everything? Tried different memory? Does it post with just video/cpu/ram?

There's a setting in the BIOS that specifies either AGP or PCI as the video device. By default it's set to PCI. Try changing it to AGP with the Voodoo in there, then swapping out for the Geforce again and see if that fixes it.

You know Xayd I was thinking of that..that's why asked whether one of his cards was pci. Why, if this is the case, would the voodoo work and not the Geforce 2? Is is something with nvidia cards? Thanks.

This may be a stupid question...but did you remove
the VOODOO from your device manager before trying to
install the GEFORCE card?
If your friends pc has the same specs,Go into the
bios settings and WRITE them down...then go back
to your pc and double check for anything different
in regards to video settings.(I know its a hassle
but it has been known to work before).

Ive reset my bios to safety default settings to no luck. I helped set up my M8s pc, and I simple set all my settings on his, as we have almost identical hardware. I never removed the Voodoo drivers from device manager as I dont think that would stop the PC posting.

Unfortunately m8 dragged me out last night, so Ill check removing the everything else not needed, and trying the AGP/PCI bios settings now.

Try using another AGP card of any type. If the system refuses to post with another card, check the AGP slot for bent/misaligned pins.
Check the system board makers site for any compatability issues. In BIOS, *be sure* that the option "IRQ for video card" is *enabled*.

The voodoo seems to have more pins than the GF.......the GF has the contacts divided into 3 tabs when the V3 has 2.

Ive got a Intel i740 card lying around somewhere, Ill pop that in. And Post what happens.

Tried the Intel card, it boots, checked Bios IRC for VGA, checked pins...

Im going to Abits site...but I shouldn't think theres any widespread trouble like this as a m8s got the same board and it posted np.

I know this maybe a dumb question but are there any jumpers on the geforce 2 card that may be set incorrectly?

Believe it or not, at this stage Ill appreciate any suggestions or questions, no matter how /dumb/

No jumpers in sight on the GF. Im going to get my m8 with the similar specs to test out the card again...never know maybe somethings happened to it. I can only think maybe my MOBO has had it. But why then does my V3 work and GF not? that be a job to convince them for a replacement.

Another dumb one...but if it's not the AGP slot..maybe the power supply? Have you tried using his power supply on your board to see whether it boots. I'm willing to bet the Geforce 2 draws more power than the voodoo 3. I don't really know how this would relate, but it's only a suggestion, unless of course you both were using indentical cases and power supplies too. HTH

Talking

Ok, I encountered same problem with a Geforce2 MX AGP Card with one of my computers. When I use a PCI Video Card it has no problem but when I used an AGP Vid Card it's a NO GO. Then I finally found out that my Digi View Monitor needs a new DRIVER, so I went to the site and DL'ded it. I removed the Default Monitor from the Device Mgr and installed the new Driver. You know what happened? It's now doing some racing on the Test Drive 5 somewhere in Russia.

Ive tried 3 different moniters with no luck. I fail to see how windows drivers will stop a card posting, however Ive got nothing else to go on, so Ill install some proper drivers and not the plug and play monitor ones.
