USB Problems on i440BX/ZX AGPset
I have been reading this site for quite some time now, and have learned quite a bit. I built my own computer from scrap parts and it runs great! The only problem I have is I got the hp photsmart 7760 printer for my digital camera and can't get it to connect to the USB port. In fact only one USB and one ps2 port works. I have printed pictures off the printer from the front card slots, but no connection to the computer itself. I have tried other divices so I am sure it is the two (USB and ps2 ports) that don't work, which I have two USB connections and two ps2 connections. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse that requires two USB connections. The Logitech keyboard/mouse is connected to the computer by a USB connection and a ps2 port with a ps2 adapter. So there is a USB port and ps2 port empty that I can't get to work. I am sure it is something I am over looking.
Motherboard: Abit i440 BX/ZX AGPset Processor: Pentium III Hard Drives: two Wetern Digital 20G Ram: 512 mb OS: XP Pro I went to the website, but could not find a solution. I would appreciate any help. And if I am leaving out any info please let me know. And on a side note I can't get some of the slots for my floppy or rom drives to work. I do have a Sony CD drive that works fine. Again, even with the old parts the computer has with stood every thing I have thrown at it, just one USB and one ps2 port are working. So I guess the motherboard just is not working great. Sorry for the long post. Thanks -Matthew Last edited by Litespeed; 07-13-2004 at 10:27 PM. |

You might want to try a bios flash. I have an Asus board here that had what I thought was a bad AGP slot - and a flash fixed it. Download the latest bios from Abit.
If this doesn't fix it, you probably have some bad components on the motherboard, and you could put a PCI USB card in it - or put an AC powered USB hub on the working port. Issues with floppy and cd drives are often deteriorating ribbon cables. |

Thanks Glc!
I found the website, but the closest match I could find was the BX6. http://www.abit-usa.com/downloads/dr...scontinued.php So a flash of the BIOS is like updating your motherboard? Also can I just do this on my cd rom since my floppy does not work? And shold I also down load any of the drivers they have available? Thanks again. |

I have a similar problem on my mobo (see sig), but it's the front USB ports. When a device is plugged in, theyare detected, but im then given an error dialog that says that the device malfunctioned. If i then get on my hands and knees and plug the device into the back of the computer it works fine.
Any Ideas? The USB ports plug into a header on the mobo with individual plugs for each pin, perhaps my pin config is wrong...the mobo manual doesnt say where it plugs into, and my el-cheapo case didnt come with instructions on the USB ports, so i only got it to work with trial and error, and it seemed to work tempermentally for a short time, but it since stopped working altogether... |

On the bios dowload site http://www.abit-usa.com/downloads/bi...ies=1&model=95 which one do I download? I looked up the info on the board and it gave me hj>>jh>>kh>>ku>>lu>>mn>>mw>>nw>>qr. Does this mean that qr is the most recent I should download? The reason for confussion is when I read the link above it gives different discriptions for each download. Also can I download this to a cd, due to the fact that my floppy does not work? Thanks for the help. I am hard headed and can't stop until this works. Thanks again for any help.

Thanks Cricket. I will give this a shot. I really just need to get a new motherboard, but I will see if this works. -Matt
