Let me rave

Well i see that alot of people are out there talking about their hardware so i thought i would let myself go on a little about mine.

Okay well just in late may i bought the Plextor 712a dvd burner which burns at 12x dvd+r on 8x media 8x-r and 4x for both types of rws, reads at 12x dvd rom and writes 48x to cdr and 24x to cdrw which is as fast as you are going to need but little extra is nice.

Comes with enough to get you started ( i.e. screws, cable, etc.) and a 12x certified dvd+r and this thing works like a dream. I had a plextor earlier when i got my 2nd pc and that was a plextor 4012a but this thing is great especially with all the features that it comes with

Gigabit recording-This allows you to record 998mb on a 700mb disc doin overburnin i have just tried it had some problems but these can be easily fixed overtime. But you can arrange this on plextors website it goes from 0.6x of the disc at 407mb (don't see the reason for that) to 1.4x 998mb.

various recording- this allows the drive to switch between speed settings and this way make a quality burn in case the media really cant handle the speed or the quality of the source disc is pretty bad.

Secure Recording- This case if you are creating a disc for business or you just really dont want people to find out if you lose it they have this feature. The only bad thing about this is that everyone has to download software just to get a prompt to input the pass if you dont have a plextor drive.

But overall this is a great drive and moderatly priced in this aspect 159.00 when i got it just looked yesterday was 179.00 but hey for this quality you cant go wrong, and if you still doubt it was rated #1 best buy for a dvd+rw

I belive it! I have a Plextor CD burner that is a couple years old and it is the absolute BEST burner I have ever used or seen. It has NEVER burned a coaster. I will be using a Plextor DVD burner in my next build without a doubt. Maybe the 712a if I can afford it.
