I installed a Diamond i56 Supra Express modem in my newly built system. During Windows detecting new hardware and drivers from the cd that came with the card, I got another msg that was not mentioned in the manual. No wav device for voice modem detected. I pointed it to the cd and it still came up "nada". What next? If I browse contents of the cd, would I be able to recognize the voice modem wav table?

Don't worry about it unless you plan on using the modem for answering the phone and running voice mail software.

added question, glc.....

I was planning on using the speakerphone and fax features in the FaxTalk Communicator software that was bundled with this modem. Would the files be required then, glc? I suspect, so, but; not sure. Could it be that I should have had microphone attached when I first booted up? Would that have made any difference?

Then you will need it.

Try downloading the latest driver from http://www.diamondmm.com and uninstall the modem and wave device - and reinstall it with the new driver. Mike doesn't need to be attached. Supra installs go better if you jumper the modem to Com2 (after disabling Com 2 in BIOS) instead of using plug and play.

That way, Windows will see the modem only as Com 2 - and set the port properties to 115200, 8, none, 1, hardware - then use the Modems applet in control panel to detect and install the modem.
