That's an indication of defective or incompatible ram. IBM's are very fussy about generic ram.

the message says: Windows setup requires 7340032 bytes avaliable on your C: drive.

glc, i got these 4 pc from school and got everything i could find that might work with them (floopies, HS, Fans, etc) i grabbed all the RAM i could, they are all 8mb sticks but there is like 3 different styles (3 different sticks but all still 8mb) should i just keep trying different RAM untill it works or is there some way to see if it will work. couls i use the RAMtest on it?

Another suggestion - zero fill the drive before reusing it. Yes, you can run memtest86+ to test each stick, might not be a bad idea.

What brand are the hard drives? Look on there website for a zerofill tool, but it will only work on a drive of that brand.

ok cricket, i tried that and it formated the drive fine. i restarted it and when the A:\ came back up i hit d:\ to get into the CD-ROM to install win95 and it says hit enter to start install. i hit enter and it says cannot create temp directory. creat a primary DOS partion. i use fdisk and create a primary dos partion install again and it says the file size error again. "Windows setup requires 7340032 bytes avaliable on your C: drive."

Just found out what causes this - you created a FAT32 partition with your boot disk but are trying to install original Win95, which is only FAT16-compatible. When you go into FDISK, choose NO to large disk support to make a FAT16 partition.

Boot with the floppy. Run FDISK, if it asks you if you want large drive support, say NO. Remove all partitions. Reboot, repeat, this time create a primary DOS partition. Reboot again with the floppy, this time FORMAT C: . A 95 CD will not install unless the drive is partitioned and formatted first.
