Ram question
Just about to order my ram from newegg and had a question. Should i get 512mb of dual channeling HyperX kingston ram for like 150 USD or should i but 1024mb of the value select kingston for 178 USD. My mobo has four ram slots and supports up to 4 GB of ram, and i plan to get more ram around christmas time anyways.

What latency is it? What speed? What is your processor FSB speed? Do you plan to overclock? Is the 1024 a dual channel kit of two sticks. I doubt you will need any more ram than a gig, unless you are into industrial uses.
I agree with KoMoDo, get dual channel, but also get the best value for money. |

If you're going to overclock, get the HyperX.
If you aren't going to overclock, get the ValueRAM. Dual Channel DDR is enabled when you install two identical sticks of RAM into the appropriate memory slots on the motherboard (if the motherboard supports the Dual Channel DDR feature)...you don't have to get special "Dual Channeling RAM" in order to use the Dual Channel DDR performance feature. The sticks should be identical for dual...why would you mix if you are buying two anyway? The HyperX is more expensive because it is more suitable for overclocking...thus, it costs more. You can get the same standard performance from the value ram but it doesn't overclock as well. If you're not planning on overclocking, then it doesn't make sense to pay more money for the HyperX because you'll never take advantage of what that extra money is paying for (the ability to overclock).

hmm, but i thought, because they're gonna be used to dual channel, they're definetely gonna be faster than the valueram.. so ure saying he shuold just get 2x512 of valueram instead of 2x512 of hyperx ?

Ah, I think I see your confusion...the clock speeds on the RAM are not faster since they are being used in dual mode...it's the mere fact that they are running in dual mode that results in the increased performance of the system. The clock speeds stay the same no matter what (unless you overclock them of course)!

so what i am getting from all this is that the hyperX will overclock better, but if i do not plan to overclock get the value ram. if i get the value ram i will have 1 GB instead of 512mb. but which ever i choose it will be dual channeling. i dont believe i will be OC'ing for a while so i guess i will get the 1 GB of value ram. adn to answer someones previous questions, the speed is 3200 and the FSB is 800mhz.
