I read in a post that Lite-On drives are noisy, is that true?

My lite-on dvd-rw drive makes about the same amount of noise as my nec cd-rw. Its not exceptionally noisey.

All the Lite-On DVD-ROM drives I have seen were very noisy. I am not impressed with them. Their CD burners are much better. I personally prefer Asus or Pioneer for DVD-ROM. They are virtually silent drives.

They should be good then. I was just noting that it was probably their DVD-ROM drives that you heard were noisy.
