What do you mean by "the slave cord." Can you describe what your setup is exactly?

Thanks for the response Doc G.
Ok, I have an old HD, the only one from a system that ran windows 2000, I want to transfer files, email,,etc,,, to a new computer that runs XP.

I set the jumper on the old HD to slave, plugged it into the power supply and plugged in the flat wire labled slave.

The end marked Master is plugged into the HD that came with the new computer, the end marked slave is plugged into the old HD that has had the jump switched to slave.

I go to My Computer but the old HD does not show up.

How do I transfer files from the old HD (Win 2000) to the new one that came with the computer(XP)?
Thanks.

What kind of cable is it? Does it have colored connectors?

Also, does the drive show up in BIOS?

Right click My Computer, select Manage. Look for Disk Management, open it. It should see the drive and offer to write a signature on the drive. When this is done, reboot and the drive should be seen. You have to import "foreign" media this way.
