WinXP and only 132gb on a 200gb?
I tried to format my new 200gb harddrive and it can only read like 130gb to partition. It is a 200 gb harddrive in IDE. I am using WinXP pro.

Do you have SP1 installed?
What motherboard are you using? Are you using a PCI IDE card?

Check in your bios and see if the drive is recognized correctly. If it is, then you need to install SP1 and update your XP.

SP1 is just an addtition to XP, not a replacement. It's a package contained several previously released updates all in one. No need to reinstall. If you encounter problems in the future you can do a repair without a reinstall. If you do a reinstall for some reason, then, yes you would have to reinstall SP1 again too.

There are three ways to get the full drive capacity.
1. Partition the drive on installation to 137gb or less, install SP1, then you can partition the rest of the drive with Disk Management. You will have more than one partition this way. 2. Same thing, but instead of creating a new partition, use Partition Magic to expand the partition after SP1 is installed. 3. Burn a CD with SP1 "slipstreamed" into XP and use that to install with. |
