Printer Not Communicating With PC

HI

I recently reformatted my friends pc because it was running really slow. I reinstalled everything and it turns out he lost the cd for the printer. The printer model is Lexmark X75. So I downloaded the driver from the lexmark site. I tried to use the add hardware wizard but it would not detect the printer and said that it wasn't pnp. I reinstalled the usb ports with the dell cd and still nothing. The Usb & gamepad work fine but when i plug in the printer i get the usb device in malfunctioning. There is a thing in the usb root directory in devices that is unknown. I tried installing the driver for it that came with dell but it failed. I really need help on this one. Thanks in advance.

Did you try installing the printer drivers before plugging it into the USB port? That's what I had to do with my Canon printer.

PS this is what comes up as soon as i plug the printer into the usb prot.

One of the usb devices attached to the computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize the it.

That didn't work. In the printer properties there is no option to select usb for a printing port only lpt1-lpt4 and com.
