USB printer not working

I am trying to set-up my brother's Windows 98 SE computer to use a Lexmark Z25 printer. I have the Z25 driver set for "default", no pause, the cable is plugged into the proper port and the printer shows the "online" lite. When I attempt to print a test sheet the paper will feed through the printer but no text is printed. The computer has 64 megs, 82% resources, and 1.1 gig unused disk space.

I seem to recall someone having a similar problem on this site with the Z25, try a search on the site. USB devices are very particular about how you load them. First load the printer driver software with the printer turned off, at some point during the install it will prompt you to turn on the printer so windows can detect it. Hope this helps

Does it look like it is trying to print (heads moving back and forth) or is it just feeding a sheet of paper with no other activity? If the former, it may be out of ink or the heads are clogged - or you forgot to take the tape off the cartridges when you installed them.

I followed the instructions, which were to:
1. Turn on the computer
2. Set-up the printer: connect power, connect to computer, install cart
3. Install software

I may try it your way next time I have access to the system.

The heads move, the paper feeds, but no printing takes place. Yes, the tape was removed. I exchanged the cartridge for a new one with the same result.
