Scanner problem
A friend of mine just emailed me. He moved and forgot to lock down his scanner. It worked fine before the move, and gets only "black" scans now. Sounds like the light / belt bounced off track into a wrong position.
Anybody have experience / luck in fixing this sort of problem? TIA _

Is it still under warranty? I'd suggest going that route before cracking it open and trying to adjust it.

Sadly, no. He's had it for at least a year. He's prepared to buy another, but he's going to drop it off today so I can take it apart (
) and see what's-up. Might not get to it today, but I can post back later if I find anything I can fix.

Just an update. I took the unit apart, made sure all the connections were tight, moved the scan head up and down manually and movement seemed good. I put the head at the opposite end and fired it up; it correctly seeked "home" and came to a rest.
I gave it back to the owner and he emailed me last night saying it's working just fine. I guess I got lucky!
