power supply question

I am going to be building my first system with an athlon xp 2500+. I know amd used to have a list of recomended power supplies on their website which they don't seem to have anymore. I heard that it's not really a big deal since that only means amd has tested that particular modle powersupply. I did however find a page that says the power supply should have an air intake on the bottom as opposed to the front of the power supply for better air flow past the proccessor. I was going to use the 360w power supply that comes with the enlight case i'm going to use but the intake is on the front. So i'm just wondering if it makes a big difference if the intake is at the bottom or the front? Should i get another ps with the intake on the bottom or is the enlight with it on the front going to be adequate?

Any on the good list ( http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=98650 ) will do. You might want to get an outtake fan for your case as well. Some powersupplies have 2,3 or 4 fans so that is not a problem. If the case comes with an enlight supply it will be very good.

Welcome to PC Mech forums

As for the intake and such, I found it makes little difference when picking one out myself. I was considering the Thermaltake alternative but the Enlight 360W serves me well now. Just get generally good air circulation from within the case and you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Hope that helps,
kram

Welcome to PCMech, Markman385

Is front intake adequate? yes.

Does it make a difference if you have a bottom intake? yep. Better cooling.

If you already have the PSU, I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think it makes that much of a difference...especially since that bottom fan spins at an extremely low RPM. More important is your whole case cooling set up. I think as long as you have an exhaust fan on the back of the case near the CPU, it'll handle the removal of the heat generated by the CPU.

The Enlight will be more than adequate. The main purpose of the power supply is to supply clean power to your computer, not keep it cool.

More cooling = better.
