Raid? Sata?

Okay, so on my Abit NF7-SG2 MOBO, I have SATA capabilities and it supports RAID. My questions are there: How does SATA differ from other interfaces, besides the much different cable? Will using bothe SATA headers allow me to have two hard drives and not use any IDE? And what EXACTLY is RAID, and how is it done?

sata transfers data at 150mbps whereas pata transfers at 133mbps at the highest setting. eventually, sata will become faster. yes, you can have your hd's on the sata headers but you will still use the ide for your optical drives

never really got into raid, so i am not even going to try to explain it, but webopedia and google especially are good tools.

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/R/RAID.html - a definition of raid. best way to find out how to do raid w/ your specific mobo is to pick the type you want and read the manual. all the info you need will be in there

SATA controllers only allow one HDD per controller, unlike IDE where you can have two.

Yes, there should be two SATA controllers on the motherboard.
