2.8 Athlon 64 bit
I ve just got my new computer over the last few weeks, & dont look at my sig cuz thts the old one I ll change that soon. Its a 2.8 gig athlon 64 bit pro (newcastle ) the mobo iS a gigabyte k8 triton nforce 3 150 chipset,ga k8n.
DDR 512 3200 Samsung & DDR 256 2700 Samsung (crucial) Radeon 9200 128 ddr . 120gig master IBM & 80gig Slave IBM. (7200rpm ) Processor cooled with the fan that is equipped(default) I bought a second one for the case 'speeze' ?? in make. Anyway Ive noticed this is the same speed as my old 2.5 athlon xp ( runns at 1.8 ) see attachment, I 've been looking at overclocking it so it runs a lot faster. ( lol i mean so its bout 2.2 - 2.5 because seems unusually for it to run that far behind its actual speed ) Advise please

a 2800+ A64 doesnt run at 2800MHz, it runs at 1800MHz. the 2800+, in AMDs words, means it runs just as fast or faster than a 2800MHz P4. your chip is A-OK. my advice, ditch that PC2700 memory, its really crippling your system because its making your PC3200 downclock to PC2700 speeds so no memory goes kablooie.

oh well, lol themobo came with overclocking software its running at 2007mhrz now
motherboard stable and everything very cool, just wondering whether to keep it like that or change it back now that you have said that. Cuz i havent played with the voltage so its not major clocking. Yeh tht rams weird I took it out few day ago and no difference is felt, thats why i'm not fussed with keepin it on 2700 Just seems as slow or as fast as my 2.5 gig system which had that cheap ram. Expected more from a 64 bit processor, with that extra bus . Hmmmm

be careful using that PC2700...it may not feel faster because it getting errors trying to run at the speed you have it set at. when memory gets errors...it stutters and slows down your system. go to www.memtest86.com and download memtest 86 and test your memory. run about 10 loops of tests 5 and 8 to see if its getting anything funky.

both memory sticks perfect, as I'd expect really one was only bought last week & others only 8 months old. Plus samsung are reliable in my eyes. Hmm no It auto clocked my processor back to 1.8 cuz i forgot to save it, but I can't really tell much difference when it was up at 2ghrz so I prob won't bother doing it again. I've installed system fan on the side panel just to see if I can get it running cooler than my previous 32 * C which is prob not possible unless I use some coolents, although my over clocking software says WARNING SYSTEM FAN 2900 RPM , which is a little slower than the processor fan, but what does it want me to do about it ?? processor fans about 3200.
Which programs would you recommend to test the refresh rates & fram rate etc, I used to use that mad onion thing, might try that one again if I can look up my old scores, then compare it to all my old system 1.2 celeron tualatin through to this 64bit 2.8 . Oh ah finally you know you have case LED's on the front of your case, well I had a 'bright' idea, it has positive & negative, & so does the mobo connectors for the HDD & PW connectors I've tried connecting them but it doesn't work ( yep i have the + & - the correct way so I'm presuming they're different voltages, I ripped out my old led's off the old case so I was thinkin of swapping them round with the case LED's as all theyre doing at the moment is danglin out the cd bay ( as the case has no hdd lights ) is this my only option or are the system LED's usable from the MOBO connectors ?? thanks |
