Compatability
Are these compatable? Someone told me they arent because the motherboard needs EE...??? and my processor is not.
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE Also does the RAM I choose need to be ECC. They said the RAM I picked out is not compatable either. http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...factory=BROWSE This is my first build, and I dont really know what I am doing.

This motherboard will be compatible with both the RAM and processor: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...121-183&depa=0
If you give me a minute I will look for a board that supports ATA133. Here is a good Asus board: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...131-492&depa=0 And a more expensive one: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...131-449&depa=0 If you prefere Abit or another brands boards I can find you one. It is the interface that hard drives and optical drives (cd-rom's) connect to. ATA133 is faster than ATA100, and is required by some hard drives (I think, never tried a 133 drive in a 100 mobo). Unless you get Serial ATA (SATA) ATA133 is the fastest.
ATA: (Bit outdated, but you get the gist) http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/A/ATA.html SATA: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/S/Serial_ATA.html |

Going a bit basic, here is a quick explanation. There are slots on the motherboard to connect cables called IDE cables. They are versatile cables that were invented a few years ago and still largely used now. These cables connect to Hard Drives using IDE interface (or ATA/ultra ATA - same thing), CD-ROM/RW, DVD-ROM/+RW, etc. However, most users use the Hard Drive more than any other drive, and so a new faster interface was developed for the HDD. It's Serial ATA - no longer using the IDE cables, but simply its own Serial ATA connection. In that sense, it's not a true ATA - it's something else. Whenever possible, you want to find a hard drive that connects via Serial ATA and a motherboard that has integrated SATA connections, as transfer speeds would be slightly faster.
Hope that helps, kram
