PSU question

Do power supplys come with heatsinks and fans and if they do do i need to buy thermal grease or whatever it is you need to apply to the heatsink

they come as a "sealed" unit, most have a few small heatsinks on the coils in them, as well as 1, but usually 2, fans. Although they're not actually sealed, you can remove a few screws and get inside, you won't need to do anything inside the psu. It's just plug and play with them.

Its CPU's that you need to worry about, I think you are confusing them with the PSU, retail ones come with all you need.

thanks for your help guys so what you're saying is that if i buy retail cpus like in packaging and stuff everything will be set up right?

on a retail cpu you still have to install the cpu into the socket, and the heatsink/fan onto the cpu. Intels (and I think new AMDs as well) come with a "thermal pad" that works in place of the thermal paste. It works fine for running stock, no need to put paste if you've got a thermal pad (unless you're going to be overclocking). Some have a small plastic film you need to remove before installing the heatsink. Retail CPU will be labled as such, you can also buy OEM cpu's, which do not come with a heatsink/fan and have a shorter warranty.

No, you still have to put the heatsink on the processor, although everything you need is in the box.
