reinstall windows xp on new hard drive
I want to re-install Windows xp on a newer and faster hard drive. I have the windows xp upgrade disk and not the full version. Will windows be smart enough to check the other hard disk for a pre-existing version of windows and then allow me to re-install windows on the new drive?

Windows is smart enough to ask you if you have a compliant OS that will allow you to install it on the new hard drive. Microsoft activation is smart enough to know if you have the same license installed to more than one computer.

you should be ok. If windows does not read the other OS on the other HD, if you have the OS disk for the old OS, it will just ask you to stick in that cd to verify that you have a copy of an old windows version.
