Problems Problems Problems
My computer came with a CD-WR drive. I installed a DVD-ROM drive, and unhooked the CD-WR drive. After awhile i was like "wth i can have both hooked up at once" so i did. Now there are so many problems. I then disconnected the DVD-ROM drive and hooked up only the CD-WR drive. whenever i try to write anything, the computer locks up, restarts, freezes, crashes, and stuff. Now, starting up windows xp takes about 5 minutes, and whenever I open any programs, everything gets laggy, like the mouse lagging around and stuff.

We would need to know exactly how you hooked them both up to give you any revelant insight as to what may be wrong. My guess is you do not have the drives jumpered properly..

you may have the system confused now.
go to the device manager and remove all the cd and dvd drives and reboot the computer, system will redetect them and be ok |

I'll try that. I did a system restoration, just to tie things down for now.
I have the CD-WR as master and DVD-ROM as slave on IDE2, while just my HDD is connected to IDE1. It's possible that the CD-WR drive is just busted. Even before I first switched to the DVD-ROM only, the CD-WR would make funny sounds, when writing or just reading a disc. My computer started going screwy a couple days ago when I first tried to write something with it. It would speed up, I'd hear a click, then it's slow down and do it many times over, then my blue screens, computer restart, etc. I do have a spare, I may try putting that one in, but it's 16x >_< better a working one that's slower than a junked up one. |

Ooo...it does sound as if the CD-RW is on it's way out. What brand is it?

LG
the spare one, 16x, is a sony, and if it's sony, it's good :P the one that's most likely busted is 52x LG, never really heard of LG, but i'll probably just avoid all hastles and try replace it with the sony, which WORKED when i installed it on my old computer :P |
