Question 60 gig seagate won't recognize

got a 60 gig seagate hard drive that's fairly new that was working great...i took it out of pc to put it in another and all the sudden it won't recognize..tried changing the jumpers everyway possible and switching ide cables everyway possible...i just can't think of anything else to try...even tried contacting seagate for a solution..after several emails i finally got a response from them and they say they are not responsible for their hard drives after they leave them and would offer no support in any way, shape, or form. needless to say i will never buy another seagate for that reason alone. any ideas on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

maybe the power cable is conected in the wrong way. The yellow wire should be pointing outwards and the red IDE wire should point towards the power cable

I refuse to believe that this is Seagate's policy, there has to be more to this story.

If the drive is dead and less than a year old, this is a cut and dried warranty exchange issue with Seagate unless the drive came OEM in a name brand computer, then it's the responsibility of the computer manufacturer (Dell, Gateway, HP, E-machines, etc.) to provide support. If this is the case, I can understand Seagate's position, support has to come from the computer manufacturer.

i understand how u feel..i was shocked at the email i received from them concerning the hard drive..i purchased the hard drive from best buy and all i was asking of seagate was some support. i know that western digital has a diagnostics program for their hard drives and i simply wanted to know if seagate also had a diagnostics program for theirs. i'd be more than happy to send u the email i received from seagate if u would like to see it.

Seatools (Like WD Lifeguard etc) http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/ . Run them and see what happens of you want. Is the drive recognised in the BIOS?

no it's not recoginized in the bios..the drive was fine..i took it out of one of my pcs and walked to another room with it and put it in another and it's never recognized since...i tried to put it back in the pc i took it out of and tried to put it in 3 different pc's and no luck...i've changed jumpers and ide cables and settings in bios..just can't imagine what could've happened, and don't know what else to try. thank goodness it's not the only hard drive that i own..thank you for the link for the diagnostics program.

If the BIOS doesn't see it I'm not sure if the seatools will either, but its worth a shot. If not, follow the steps here: http://www.seagate.com/support/service/ if you brought the drive OEM or retail from Seagate and it is under warranty then they should be able to offer you an RMA.

If you bought it from Best Buy, that's a retail drive and Seagate should support it if it's still under warranty. I'd call them and express your displeasure at the e-mail you received and politely demand that they make it right.

Red face correction

i just realized i have made an awful mistake and i would like to correct it and say i am so sorry...i stated that the drive was a seagate when in fact it is a samsung . in fact what had happened was i had first emailed seagate and they informed me that the #'s i sent them off the drive wasn't theres and they were so very helpful..it was then that i emailed samsung and they are the ones that were very rude and would offer no help whatsoever. again, my apologies to everyone.

any one know anything bout samsung drives? i still haven't figured out why this thing won't recognize.
