Laptop hard drives are essentially universal, ANY 2.5" 9.5mm high drive will work. Ultra ATA-6 is the same thing as ATA100. Might want to reconsider the brand - Seagate drives now come with a 5 year warranty.

Have her bring all the install, recovery,or restore CDs that came with the laptop so that you have the drivers for that particular laptop.

If she has a lot of data, you will want a kit to "clone" the old drive to the new one.

I would ghost the drive, then upgrade it, I would also suggest going to a 7200rpm, it is a nice speed upgrade. You will not need to go to the website and download anything.

7200 rpm laptop drives are not very common and quite pricey. Because of the smaller platters, a 5400 rpm drive performs like a 7200 rpm 3.5" drive.
Gonna need some kind of kit (such as I linked to) to ghost a laptop drive - unless that laptop can accept a second hard drive in one of the bays. |
