Tower Compatibility

Hi guys,

I'm new to the computer building world. However i have taken my computer apart and put it back together a couple of times and basically that's how i figure out most things i come across. Take it apart, put it back together, understand how stuff works ....anyways, I recently bought a dell desktop, which i can only assume is a full sized tower. I want to buy a new tower case though, preferrably one of those good looking ones with multi fans, glass siding, neon and other bells and whistles. From what I've heard motherboards come in three generic sizes, so I basically need a point in the right direction to the tower that best suits me. Knowing that Dell basically manufactures physical clones regarding hardware dimensions, I see this being easy to solve. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to PCMech, Bigdumbanimal

Dells are proprietary. You aren't going to find any cases that will be able to house the parts. They are non-ATX standard.

Yep, Dell computers are not "clones", they're proprietary.

If you want a fancy case, you can always modify your current one. There are lots of web sites that deal with case modding out there. And there are many places to buy modding parts (like lighted fans, cold cathodes, custom fan grills, etc...).

If you do mod your Dell case; you may void the warranty. Check your warranty for restrictions.

it's already void, i broke the fan and had to replace it with a one that wasn't the right size, so it's kinda wedged in there right now. Does the job though, but yeah warrenty breaking is not an issue.
