PLEASE HELP! MoBo Probs :(
I’m not sure what is going wrong... but I am building a computer for a friend of mine. I got all the parts from newegg.com and started to put everything together... everything was going great until I tried to power it up... it started and I got the ASUS Screen (the mobo is ASUS) and about 3-5 seconds after it the ASUS screen loads the power shuts OFF. The computer completely shuts down. I unplugged everything from the motherboard except the memory, CPU and PS and it does the same thing... After this I thought it might be the Power Supply, so I ran to BestBuy to get a PS to test my theory and with the new PS, I had the same results so that leads me to believe it’s the Mother Board.
So with that said, does anyone know if this is the MoBo or something else... This is the MoBo >> MoBo LINK >> This is the CPU >> CPU LINK >> Is it possible that it has something to do with the Prescott stuff... I know the CPU has a Prescott Core, and the MoBo is Prescott Ready, but do I need to do anything special to it to set that up...? I’m not too clued up on the Prescott thing... I would like to know if I need to send back the MoBo for a replacement or if I am doing something wrong, so any input would be GREAT... Thanks ahead for any info! vödka

as far as i know prescott ready MoBos just mean they can handle the higher temps of the prescott core and can utilize the higher cache

maybe the reason why it shutted off was because the processor was overheating and the computer shutted off to protect it self, so try reseating the heatsink

I don't think it would overheat in 5 seconds... but I will try removing the CPU and putting it back in...

youd be suprised how fast cpus heat up. i think he was suggesting that you reattatch the cpu to the heatsink and relocate the thermal pad

a thermal pad is like thermal grease but there are less problems with spreading it cuz its a pad. it should come attatched onto your heat sink

OMG, im an idiot, you guys were right... the heatsink was on wrong... When I put it on it was a tight fit, but when I tried it the other way it went on a little easier and powerd up just fine... thank god I didnt have to send the MoBo in... you guys are genius!!!
I am about to build a new system for myself... something super nice, I will make sure to put the Heatsink on right... I will post the stats to my new comp when I buld it... Thanks again! vödka |
