Want to overclock 2500+. Literally about to buy this mobo but someone in comments...
said, "Its ok as long as you don't use multipliers."
I'm assuming he means the CPU multiplier which I would be using to overclock the 2500+. Should I not buy this? http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...=BROWSE&depa=0 |

If you plan to use the Barton core 2500+ processor, the multipliers are locked anyway so not having the ability to change mulitpliers won't affect you. However, if you plan to use an unlocked Mobile chip at some point you'd be better of with the NF7-S.

They aren't lying. It's just that all AMD processors (except the Mobiles) manufactured after the 39th week of 2003 have locked mulitpliers. The date code would be 0339 or later for the locked chips and 0338 or earlier for the unlocked ones. You can still oc the 2500 (1.83GHz) to the 3200 speed (2.2GHz), you just have to do it with increases in fsb only. May need a little boost in vcore for stability. My 2500 Mobile on the other hand, has hit 2.631GHz with an Abit NF7-S. I run it all the time at 2.556GHz with a vcore of 1.825 and A-data PC4000 (2 x 256) at 2.5-3-3-8 vdimm 2.6v. Just depends on whether you want to place limits on your future oc'ing possibilities.
