Dual Channel 3 Dimm filled

Okay, you know, many motherboards have dual channel capability. For example, lets take one with 4 memory slots. If I want to put three sticks of the same ram in, will the two in matching dual channel slots work in a dual channel combination, while the xtra works singely? So, can I have 3 of the same 512mb ram and have dual channel work? Or can I have 2 x 512 and 2 x 256, and it will work dual channel? Thanks. I want to have 1536 ram work in a dual channel format. Is it possible?

No, you can't have 2 sticks working in dual channel and one stick in single channel. It's either dual channel, or not.

3 sticks of RAM only work in dual channel mode on certain boards (I think only the AMD boards that have only 3 slots, not the ones that have 4).

Sigmaseven it's like AMD-Intel, if it wasn't for Airbus, Boeing would have a complete monopoly in the business, so Airbus' presence is good for the costumer.

As for the RAM issue, yes you can run Dual-Dual Channel (as I have dubbed it) if you have 2 x 512mb in dual channel configuration and 2 x 256mb in dual channel configuration (the two 512mb in slots 1 and 3 and the two 256mb in slots 2 and 4 for a 4-DIMM Asus mobo).

you can run DC with all 3 DIMM slots populated. the only way is to have either 2x256MB in slots 1 and 2...and a 512MB in slot 3. or you can have 2x512MB in slots 1 and 2...and a 1GB stick in slot 3. the first 2 slots must add up to match the capacity of the DIMM in slot 3. this is for nforce2 boards of course.

that's all nice and dandy.. but there's not performance increase at all (at least on my system) running DC... I stlil get the same bandwidth even with dual channel.... Why would they put DC on a board if it's not going to run well with the processor and such? (since DC isn't great for the AMD xp class)

It should still improve performance on an XP system by 5-10%.
