fans

im using an asus utility that monitors temps, fans etc (came with mobo) and its not monitoring the power fan or case fans...i have 2 80mm case fans and a enligh 300w psu...when i tell it to monitor these it says they are at 0 rpm and below the fan threshold or something...im wondering if this is because the fans dont run of the mobo they use connectors from the psu. all the fans are running.

Asus probe will only tell you the rpm of case fans connected to the mobo, to the computer there are no case fans present. To turn the fan monitoring off go to the Summary page of Asus Probe, then uncheck chassis fan.

There's a spot on the mobo for one case fan and one PSU fan to attach. Many fans have one lead for power (to connect to the PSU) and another for monitoring purposes (to attach to mobo.)

Which fans are you talking about? The ones in the front or the rear of the case?

What brand are the fans?

The place where the fans are mounted, does the sheet metal have big holes, small holes, slots or a grill?

On the fan label, does it have numbers with a "w" or an "a" next to them? What are the numbers?

They are two fans on the side of the case that came with it..."yate loon electronics" fans...it has more like a grill, as far as a or w, it says DC 12v 0.14A dont know if this is what ur lookin for but thats all it says.

Well if THIS is your case then the fan grill on the back looks quite restrictive. Restrictive fan grills won't let much air past. The best solution is to cut it out. The ones on the side look OK.

Okay, sounds like you have some low RPM fans in there. That would explain why it doesn't feel like a lot of air is being moved. Restrictive fan openings don't help either.

Yea the case hi ho linked to is my case...i have the two fans on the side as they came, only reversed to push air in...anyway its no big problem as i just got some of the cables out of the way (they were a mess), and my temps have dropped about 6 degrees celsius down to 39 which should also allow better air flow.

Well if it was only running at 45c before that is really good. Mine runs anywhere from 55-65c with no problems.
