Help Please

Everytime I start up my computer, it says that there is no keyboard connected. Ive tried connecting different keyboards, but it still has the same problem. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

get in your BIOS

somewhere it says something like: Halt on Errors:all errors

change the 'all errors' to something else

this way your computer will boot and you can see if its really broken

Kinda hard to get into the bios when there's no keyboard.

Some system specs, please. Motherboard model if you have it, if a name brand computer, the model, please - and are you trying to use a DIN, PS/2, or USB keyboard?

I just go it made today, it is mainly for word and stuff like that.

AMD 2400 / 256 DDR / 40 GIG / mobo A7V8X-MX SE

PS/2 Keyboard

1. Make sure you aren't plugging the keyboard into the mouse port.

2. Try a USB keyboard.

I would return the Asus motherboard as quickly as possible if I were you. Twice this year I had to send Asus motherboards into their customer service center for repair. Asus makes a poor quality product. I have had a total of 3 of their boards go bad in the first year of using them. I would get a Gigabyte or Soyo, even an MSI or Epox. Gigabyte and Soyo have not given me any problems although it has been a while since I bought a Soyo.

The board you mentioned is the same model number that I returned earlier this year. It was working perfectly and then one day out the blue 5 months later just quit functioning. I will never buy another Asus board.

They sent me a repaired board as a replacement for one that was only three months old the last time I dealt with them. (different board - Intel based) They have the option to repair or replace and they chose the cheap route, so I will not buy their products again.

It's very possible your board is defective, gnos2, but let's not generalize here, swhite. Asus boards are as reliable as any (and there are statistics to prove this), but there will be defects with ANY manufacturer. Some people just have bad luck. I've personally had bad luck with Gigabyte and MSI.

I'd just as soon have a repaired board - at least you know it's been tested.

Check the I/O shield to make sure it's not allowing the PS/2 connector to plug in all the way.

I have had to wait about 9 weeks this year for Asus to replace or repair a motherboard. Each time I sent one back it took about 3 weeks to get another. Their support team told me it takes 5-10 working days, but considering it took a week to send it back by UPS, that is a pretty long wait.

I stand by what I said about not buying another Asus board, but understand that many people have good luck with them.

It could be that part of the board is shorted out. My keyboard got fried the last time when mine went down. The keyboard would not work on any other machine, either. The cpu fan would come on but there was no video and the keyboard would not work. I ended up sending it back.
