Can't change FSB Spread Spectrum !??

My understanding is that the "FSB Spread Spectrum" BIOS setting is for EMI only and you can gain a very slight performance boost if you turn it off. My problem is I can't turn it off!

Running an early rev of Asus A7N8X Dlx v1.x.

I can get the 3 options of Disabled, 50%, and 100%, but no matter what I change it to, it immediately switches back to 50% while I'm still in the BIOS.

Any ideas?

TIA

Is there a BIOS update for the motherboard? Maybe it is a BIOS fault.

Probably, as I haven't looked in a long while. I'll have to check into it. Do you run with it disable, ric449?

Yeah, I think my motherboard was disabled as default actually. I also heard that disabling spread spectrum can make your computer more stable too.

OK, thanks - I'll have to search for an updated BIOS.

What's FSB Spread Spectrum and what does it do and what is EMI?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, haven't been around the last few days. EMI = ElectoMagnetic Interferance. The FSB Spread Spectrum, in brief, is a timing/frequency adjustment the mobo makes to reduce EMI. Since it's another "work step" for your system, you should get a performance gain if it is turned off.

Think it is definitely a bios problem, TR. I had the same thing with an inability to change memory timings on an A7N8X-E Dx. I had flashed to a bios (think it was 1010) and shortly after Asus pulled it off the web. I flashed back to 1008 that came on the board and problem solved. There are several bios updates currently available. Just be sure you pick the one that matches your board revision.

Thanks PR. I've been so busy, that "I haven't had time to change my mind" !! So, soon I'll look for that latest BIOS update, when time allows me to install it.
