DVD+RW trouble blank DVD's show up as CD's

I have a NEC DVD+RW ND1000A; I don’t you the drive to burn that often. Last time I used it was about 3 months ago. Prior to today the drive always worked flawlessly. I inserted a blank DVD and attempted to burn a data to the DVD but the program I was using said the disk is full. Knowing the disk was not full I starting doing some troubleshooting. I notice when I insert a blank DVD the drive does not recognize the disk as a blank DVD but rather a full CD. The drive seems to read fine. I can not write with the drive. I have seen a couple posts about the same issue but with no resolution. I tend to think the drive is ok, and the problem stems for other software I have installed over the last few months. Anyone have any thoughts on what to do to correct the problem. I have another system I will probably install it in when I have time, just hoping someone here may have seen a similar issue and can offer up a solution.

Thanks in advance for any input. BTW, I am running XPpro.
