Yes that is a very good hard drive.

By "ultra" I think you mean Ultra ATA, which was the predecessor of Serial ATA. That hard drive that you intend to get is Serial ATA, not parallel ATA (Ultra ATA belongs to parallel ATA), so be sure your mainbaord has SATA connections as well.

I've bought over twenty maxtors thus far, spread over a year and a half. Five for myself and the rest for family/friends/customers. No failures yet, so it seems like a wise choice ATM.

I've had three IDE versions of that drive - One is holding up very nicely, one died, was RMA'd, and the drive they sent me was also working well untill I went and killed it...
Good Luck with it,
-Joe

The drives are exellent. It's a pitty though Maxtor gives only 1 year warranty on their new drives... Western Digital is on the same level of quality/price, but they give 3 years, so I would rather go for WD

This is only for the cheapest models. Right now, that's the 40-120G PATA drives, all the rest is 3 years, including every SATA drive. I just bought a nice 200G PATA drive with 3 year warranty for 116 euros.
