Which HSF for my AMD64?

Hi,

I am shopping for a HSF for my AMD64 3200+ & wanted to get some opinions on two particular models by Thermaltake.

1)silent boost
2)venus

I am leaning towards the Venus because it has the adjustable fan speed feature. However, time is an issue for me & ZipZoomFly currently has the Venus on backorder but the have the Silent Boost in stock. Of course, newegg has the Venus in stock but express saver shipping is less desireable than free 2nd day air.
So, is the Venus that much better than the Silent Boost or what?

Thanks!

If I was looking for a good heatsink for a AMD 64, I'd get this.

i'd get this or this crickets recommendation would come in 3rd for me.. either that or just stick with the stock HSF. get a motherboard supporting C'n'Q if u care about noise.

as for the ones you picked out.. the main difference is the silent boost has a quietER fan on it and so is quieter than the venus, and therefore the venus gives slightly lower temperatures. neither are brilliant though.

IMO the only good thing thermaltake makes are fans and PSUs, other than that....anything else is craptacular. Thermalright is by far the best cooler available for an A64. the SLK-948U will be good, but the XP120 will be much better, since it can use up to a 120mm fan. thermaltake heatsinks are mainly just loud and flashy....thermalright is strictly performance without the bling.

Heres the fan that would be best. its very quiet and moves plenty of air. you should also purchase the XP-120 from there since its only $47 compared to neweggs price of $62. i have dealt with Jab-Tech before and theyre a bunch of good guys. they have a higher reseller rating than newegg .
