Lighting question
Would it be safe to put a UV Cathode light in my case? I read someone's article here the other day (think it's in the General Discussion forum) about a Cold Cathode light's inverter sort of exploding inside his case, causing damage.
I'm trying to decide whether or not to get a case with a window. If I get a case with a window, I'd want a light so people could see my hardware.....but if having a light in there is a risk to the system, I won't get a case w/ window. Your thoughts? |

If you don't want to go to the expense of cold cathode, there are other things you can do that will give you light inside your case. You can get cooling fans that have LED's in them that will illuminate your case. That is what I did. I have a blue one in the back to exhaust the hot air, and a red one mounted underneath my hard drive to cool it. It gets a neat affect. It's blue in the back, red in the front, and where they meet, it's purple.
You can check places like Anandtech and Xoxide for sure, and I'm pretty sure New-Egg.com would carry those as well. If you want to illuminate just parts of your case, they make an LED spotlight that you can use to illuminate certain things. Scomac |

Ok, thanks. I'll check Xoxide for the LED lights and stuff. Thanks again.

That thread was in this forum I believe. The general consensus here was a cheap light kit with a cheap capacitor. Buy a quality light kit and I wouldn't worry about it. I have 2 cold cathodes in each of my computers (one of which I have over 4 grand invested in) and I don't worry at all.
