Hard drive failure
I have (or had) 4 hard drives in my computer:
1 Maxtor 120 Gb IDE Hard Drive 1 Western Digital 120 GB IDE Hard Drive 1 Western Digital 100 GB IDE Hard Drive 1 Samsung 160 GB SATA Hard Drive The Maxtor drive failed on me, leaving me with three. Now my question is, given a choice between a 120 GB SATA Drive and a 160 GB IDE Drive which should I go for? In either case, at the very least, I get back what I lost. So it comes down to whether I want faster performance or 40 GB extra. So I thought I would ask what other people would do and maybe get an argument that will tip the scale. |

I'd say go with the WD 120GB one. Samsung doesn't hold a very good reputation around - reliability wise, I'd trust WD.

Just to clarify, the 4 hard drives I listed are the ones that I currently own, except that the Maxtor just died. I need to replace it, so do I go with PATA or SATA?

SATA in itself is not really faster than PATA. But it IS the future hard disk standard. Also, check the warranties, do not settle for any less than three years. I'd go for the extra capacity, as long as it has a decent warranty.

If the Maxtor is still on warranty, just get it replaced.
