Side fan intake or exhaust?
I purchased a 80mm LED fan to put in the side of my computer. When I punch the hole and put the fan in, is it better to have it as exhaust or intake? I'm leaning towards exhaust. I also got a 120mm fan for the front of the case, which I know is intake.

I would put it in the back if you can (although you might already have one there), the side fan in my case does pretty much nothing. Overwise I have mine blowing in, but htere was no difference in temperature when I swapped it round/took it out. (But then I do have 5 fans without it, including PSU.)

i have 2 side intakes on my LANboy and they dropped temps considerably. i had one blowing on CPU, memory, and the northbridge. the other side intake was over the video card.

I have a side fan installed, and it's blowing in on my 9800 Pro. I don't think setting it up as an exhaust will help your temps much.

If you put the hole over the card slots, blow in. If up high by the PSU, exhaust.

Like several others, I'm of the opinion that the side fan should be an intake. However, since different fan and case configurations may react differently to intake vs. exhaust, how bout this idea? You try it both ways and report back to us with the results of your tests. Keep track of the temps both at idle and loaded (like running prime 95 or PCMark04). Then YOU will be able to tell others from your own experience, roomwithamoose!

Well, now, that's a good idea! It'll give me something more to do. I'm looking for things to play with on my computer, and cooling is the first step, since I want to try my hand on OCing. Thanks for the help guys!

I have 2 side 120mm intakes. One blowing on my vid card, one on the chipset. There was a nice drop in case temps, and a 7c drop in chipset temp.

Front han should be intake..... side fans should be intake.......
rear fan and power fan exhaust... top fan (if you have one..) exhaust....... You want to port air from the front of the pc (closer to cooler ambient center of room) and out through the back and top.... Why a top exhaust? heat goes up..... help it out.... G |
