Reboot are you there? in a 700mhz or higher system, will a win modem perform as well as a hd modem.I have seen a win modem connect at a lower speed then a hard modem, but will it make a difference in downloads? will the win modem noticeably effect the faster cpu'S???????
thanks AL

For casual surfing/email a properly installed, and good chipset winmodem will work fine.
If you do any online gaming, or are a power user (multiple browser windows, FTP, email all running at once, all the time) get a hard modem. Recommended: Lucent LT winmodem if you must have a cheap winmodem. Recommended: Diamond Supra Express External, no comparison, except maybe with the USR/3com external, but the Supra is half the money! DO NOT get Ambient/Cirrus Logic, Motorolla, or ESS chipset modems!!!!!!!!! Stick with the Lucent Venus (hard modem chipset, not the Mars, which is the LTWinmodem chipset) or Rockwell/Conexant ACFII |
