Hi me again. I am going to be installing an IDE dvd drive slaved to my CDRW drive.
I have an Asus CUV4X with a built in yamaha XG soung card. It currently has a wire going from the CD-Rom to the CD port on the sound card portion of the mobo. The Video and AUX are free. Do I use the video port for the DVD drive? _ _ _ | | | | | | |_| |_| |_| CD Video AUX used open open What is the AUX port for? Will a universal audio IDE CD-ROM to SoundBlaster 16 & 64 cable work for my yamaha card to creative labs DVD? Does anyone make an IDE audio cable that splits with 2 plugs on the end so I can attach one to the CDRW and one to the DVD? Thanks and sorry about all the questions. I should have read through the forum first Lawther's post helped me out a lot. I found this surfing on the web can I use this to plug one into the video port of the yamaha card and one into the CDRW and one into the DVD drive?
![]() Also it look like my yamaha card has 4 pins. Is black 4 pin and white 2 pin? [Edited by eje2001 on 03-31-2001 at 11:58 PM] |

I'm not sure why you want it connect to the VIDEO port.
Connect it to the CD port on your card and the two others to each drive (cd and dvd). Well, my audio-cable (2-pin) is also black. Not sure if it has any meaning if it's white instead of black. RJ

The white connector I was referring too in the other post was a little white rectangular one, it's not pictured in the above picture. It also has four pins, and I guess is used to plug into older soundcards, but all newer ones use the bigger black connector as pictured above I think.

Ah, yes, I remember. That white connector is for older sound cards. In my old P133 I had one. But haven't seen it anymore on actual sound cards.

Ok I decided to just go with a 3 regular audio cable with no splitter, ends up being cheaper
. So will this setup work????One cable from CD port to CD-rom. One cable from Video port to DVD-rom. One cable from AUX port to CDRW drive. All with bigger black plugs on both ends. |

I don't really know, but why to you still want the cdrom drive ?
You know that the cd burner can write and read cds, and the dvd drive is capable of reading cd's, too, don't you ? RJ |

Are you using hardware or software decoder?
I have just added a DVD player to my system which already has a CD-Rom and a seperate CD-RW, and thought i would have the same problem with sound. I have an onboard soundcard with only one connector which goes to the CD-Rom. I am using a software decoder, and i have full sound, although i have no sound cable in the back of the DVD running to the sound card. Don't ask me how. Maybe you might find the same. |

I have a software decoder also, that is strange how you are getting sound without an audio cable. I haven't ordered the dvd drive yet but once I get it, I guess I will find out.
RJ I answered you in the other thread. It is here http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?threadid=10852 |
