CRASH

I have tried everything to get a Lucent Winmodem to stay connected.Have the latest driver loaded too 5.97.Lines are good in the house as I have an old 28.8 modem that hooks no problem. Was told that proximity to a Bell switch box or relay may be a concern particular to these win modems.Anyone
confirm or deny this tidbit?Thank you very much.

It could be that the Lucent is just incompatible with your ISP. I have one ISP in town that a Lucent just will not work with their system.

Hey Hal...so you dont think proximity to these relays and
distace a signal has to carry has anything to do with it?
Thanx for the reply btw.

It could also have an impact. Contact your ISP though and ask if they have any issues with Lucent modems, they might suggest a driver revision OTHER than the latest one.

Just because your older 28.8 works ok is no indication of line quality. What is your initial connect speed with Lucent?

Wink

Hey Sarge...
I am not so much talking line quality as I am attenuation.
It was put to me that software based modems may have a harder time than hardware modems going the distance.
