amd prices

well, i havent been on in a long time. and now i got some money im trying to finish my build.. while looking at procesors at newegg i realized a BIG price jump in athlon xp.. specifically i was looking for the 2800+ back when it was 80$.. now its like 130$ if im not mistaken. i have no idea why its like this.. im guessing they introduced a new processor?

anways.. 2800+ used to be the most popular processor for suggestion new builds, considering the price is so high and new line is out.. what is the equivalent processor that replaced the 2800+ for the same or kinda same low price?

Are you sure you're not thinking of the 2500+? That has been around that price for a while now, and has been suggested for tons of builds. I don't ever remember the 2800+ being that cheap.

i have no idea why the price has jumped, one thing that comes to mind is i think the Bartons are being phased out. So to me i would think that would make them cheaper. But it could be a supply and demand thing. Amd is phasing them out and people still want them so the price goes up. Thats the only reason i can think of. I'm not sure if AMD is still making the bartons or not. I know they want to make the sempron the low end chip and the 64's more mainstream. Just not sure when.

looking at anandtech's price guides for september(http://www.anandtech.com/guides/showdoc.aspx?i=2192&p=2)

, u can see 2 athlon xp 2800+ 333mhz cpus, they look entirely the same, one is priced at 84 and the other is at 154.. the price increase for the 2nd one is *gasps* 68 bucks.. wots the reason??

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
Appears to be the difference in who is offering the chip for sale. MWave has the better price is all.

Are you sure you're not looking at the 64-bit or Mobile versions, and not the barton?
