Question Buying a computer, help me please

Sine this is my first time posting on this forum i would like to say hello to the community . Anyways so i am thinking of buying a new computer for my gaming needs, i decided i would like an AMD but i am not sure of the processor i would like to buy or the motherboard to go with it. I do know however that i will be using dual channel memory probably from Corsair, S ATA hard drive from Maxtor (open to other opinions about companies just know that this is a reliable one) and i already have a video card, FX5600 ultra pro with 256 mb . I have been reading a lot but i have not found much information to help me settle on a processor, i will attempt to overclock it so i would like one that is pretty easy and you can overclock a lot. I am not looking for top of the line expensive ones, decent like up to 250 CAN but that is if it is really worth it. By the way i would like an answer from Tin Canary if he could lol i have become a fan of his reading his posts and his guides lol thanks in advance!

by the way all answers are welcome lol

Welcome to PCmech
Hold on- I use american currency so I could be wrong but isnt $250 way low for a gaming computer??

Also Scince you seem to have a pretty specific idea of what you want I would recomend building to buying.

I think he's talking about 250CDN for the processor alone.

Welcome to PC Mech forums

I think the Intel P4 3.0E Prescott should be the right fit - at 258 CAD, it's a pretty decent deal though admittedly slightly over budget.

Hope that helps,
kram

Just wondering, is the prescott good at overclocking cuz of the lengthened pipeline architecture and the larger cache?
Edit-i've heard something like the mobile Athlon Xp 2500+ is a very good overclocker for a good price

I realize you're new here Shade-Reaver so welcome aboard. Watch the language tho. We don't allow the swearing I edited from your post above. And we don't allow polls for popularity of processors. Search the sticky threads, those at the top of this forum, and you'll find plenty of references for AMD vs Intel to help you make a decision.

The bad old northwoods are still fine, and can be overclocked. The 2.8c is especially good.
Here's a guide on LGA775 and new tech (by me):
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=104713

LGA 775 prescotts are supposedly beasts. The 3.4GHz one runs (supposedly) faster than an FX-51 and runs at 35C under load, leaving a lot of headroom. The one suggested by kram should be perfect for your current and future needs.
