need help installing 2nd hard drive
I am installing a new hard drive as a slave in an HP xL 756 desktop. There are 2 jumpers on the back of the master (Maxtor) drive and 9 pins. Unfortunately it does not tell me how to arrange the jumpers if I add another drive. I have been to Maxtor's site and can't find the drive model that I thought I saw in the case (N256). I have also been to HP's website and they do have a description of how to add a 2nd drive but they do not tell you how to set the jumpers either. I did notice on the back of the Maxtor drive that there were some words that said "slave off" .......I do not recognize this terminology...anytime I have installed a drive it has always given me a little picture of how the jumper should sit on the pins. Does slave off mean take both jumpers off .......for master it says jumper on...but there are 2????

check on top of the drive on the label of it, or on the board underneath it and look for something like "MA" "SL" "CS", something of the sort, ive found them in a few different places including right above the jumpers, on the board underneath the HDD, and on the label, ive had trouble finding them before but check all over the drive first.

You should not have to move the jumpers at all, you just have to determine if it's presently set to Master or Cable Select. If the former, set the new drive to Slave, if the latter, set the new one to Cable Select. Maxtor uses the same jumpering for master or single, unlike WD.
