Question about AMD processors

Hey, i have read a lot of posts in this forum and especialy the stickied ones but my question still has not been answered so i decided to put a post, and dont reply and tell me to look on the forums or something like that, just dont reply at all . Ok my question is about AMD processors ^-^ and which would be best for gaming and has OCing potential, something that is not too pricey please... in other words no FXs i was thinking along the lines of a Barton 2600 with 333 MHz FSB (yea they are still out there, soon to be disclosed though ) or an athlon 64, if you guys can be specific on the model too that would be great! thanks in advance guys!

Overclocking potential would go to the Mobile Athlon XP, 2500+ is a good bet. As for gaming performance, an Athlon 64 would be hard to beat. Just check out benchmarks to decide which model you want.

One thing though: if it is Athlon 64 you want, then it may be worth waiting. Socket 754 Athlons are reasonably priced and have good performance, but no more performance processors will be released on this platform. Socket 939 has great performance, but is priced ridiculously. Also, it has the most upgrade choices since it will have all the new processors released on it. Your choice.

Not sure what you are saying. AMD recently release the lower end Sempron, and a faster 3700+ ClawHammer. It seems like they are going in both directions. Or are you saying they are going to stop at the 3700+ ??

So are you saying i should wait for the 939 socket to go down and then buy that one? if so when do you think the price will be reasonable for them?

Semprons will carry on with the 754 platform. Athlon 64's won't. I suspect they will stop with the 3700+, but there could be another in the works. If you could get hold of a roadmap that would show you.

Don't think I've ever seen an AMD roadmap (or Intel for that matter) that shows when they will stop making certain chips... How 'bout you?

I seen one on the Socket A platform, that shown the end of Athlon XP. I expect the end of Athlon 64 would be there too.
