Hi..
I have been using clonecd version 2.7.8.1 on and off for sometime now over the last year, somehow I was able to get the user name and serial from links from this site and always stored this info on my second drive for same keeping, and a number of times after reinstalling windows I have reinstall clonecd without problems, but the other day I decided to checkout there website for upgrades I didn't download anything, I never thought anymore about it until I tried to use clonecd for my backups and I got a message telling me to register but the old resistration name and number isn't accepted now whats going on ?. I uninstalled the software and checked in the registy and delete any thing that mention clonecd but when I try and install clone again its still seems to think the name and serial numbers are wrong. I know I would Probably be able to get clone on if I wiped the drive but I don't really want to go there just yet. I would be very grateful for somebody's help on this one.

Hate to break it to you this way - but that can happen when you use "warez". Your serial is obviously on a blacklist. Looks like you are gonna have to buy it the right way now.

Hi glc thanks for the reply,I'm not sure what "warez" is, You say the serial is obviously on a blacklist, but if I was to reformat the hardrive stay off the clone site I would be able to use it again how come?. I know this because I have done it in the past so this serial number blocker must be stored somewhere on my machine but where.

Warez = Illegally obtained software. You have not paid to have it. I'm sorry, but we cannot provide support in these instances.

cool down cool down HAL9000 sorry if I didn' know what this software was, there will be things you don't know and I do but I won't bother you with them. I was only new to computers when I downloaded this software,it was a demo version just so happens I was using this forum and somebody sent me the serial number I never thought anymore about it, it was about 2 years ago I didn't really use it as I have nero 4 that came with my writer also you are not telling me that all the software on your machine is all paid for gear, even the shareware stuff, you still have to pay the licence, for the use after the 21-30 days so,if so you must be the only person that I know of. so dont go off your high horse with me because I don't know all the rules and about "warez" software.

Take it easy, mark - you didn't know - but we do have a strict policy here about stuff like this, because of both legal and ethical reasons.

There is an entry somewhere in the registry - but I can't even start to tell you how to find it, not just because of the "warez" issue, but because I actually don't "know" where it would be.

Yes, you can reformat and it will install again, but I would recommend that you download the latest version, and if you are going to use it beyond the terms of the "free" license, register it like you are supposed to. Fair enough?

CloneCD is usable without registering it, it just limits your capabilities.

Not getting hot about anything, just providing the facts and informing you of the situation. Warez aren't supported around here. I really don't care if anyone copies stuff. What they do in their own home is their own business.

Hi glc thanks for you input just to clear up a few things I downloaded clone free trial a long time ago. I used it as a demo for a while thought its not bad I contacted a forum like this one some guy give me an address in germany for the full version I sent him a cheque he sent me the software... OK maybe I have been done over, but I will watch out more now. I am at present looking for the paper work I know theres no way of catching them but I could warn others. I suppose thinking back I didnt even really know what forums were then, maybe I thought all could be trusted anyway its been enjoyable thinking back to how daft you can be when it comes to contacting people via the computer. Thanks anyway guys for your input lets just put it behind us I feel a fool overall.....but I'll get over it, its pass now

No problems Mark, we all get a little hot sometimes (including myself) and sometimes things can be misinterpreted. I apologize if you misuderstood my comments.

Send a message via AIM to Jenni
It sounds to me like you DID register your software, as Elaborate Bytes' company is indeed in Germany. But, I checked the docs in the program, and it clearly states that you should save your registration key on a floppy, as lost ones "will not be replaced". Might want to check your old floppies for it, just in case you saved it and forgot that you did it.

Hi jenni thanks for input I'm not sure whether I mentioned earlier but I only used this clonecd software for arkward backups I.E. (cds that I have had problems backing up) so you probably will be right in saying that the serial number will be on a floppy somewhere in my home,I never really thought about it until you mentioned it. I never really thought a software question could cause so much fuss, I suppose I will remember this one for the future I hope nobody else asks it.!!Thanks again
