My Award BIOS provides an option for Spread Spectrum as Disabled, 0.25%, or 0.50%. The Creative M003 motherboard manual simply stated that setting this option reduces EMI. Of course I want to reduce EMI -- this is a music-recording machine! So I set the option. The machine would not boot. Hard disk drives light, floppy lights, CD-RW ligths, but the system blissfully halts until I hit the reset button, then it boots. Other things don't work, like the Infrared port for the remote, etc. I disable the option -- everything works.
What is this setting really supposed to do? |

It does reduce EMI, but enabling it can produce the results that you have encountered. In your case, leave it disabled.
