rebuilding a raid doesn't recognize new capacity

I am upgrading my IDE ATA133 RAID mirror from 40GB(2 drives) to 200GB(2 drives). I removed my slave 40GB and installed a 200GB. At startup, I rebuilt the RAID and it mirrored the drive ok. I removed the master 40GB and replaced the slave 200GB to master and another 200GB to slave. Then at startup I rebuild the array and it seems to have mirrored ok to the second 200GB drive. However, my promise software only sees the array as 40GB and not 200GB. Is there a way I can expand the array? I tried to delete the aray, but it says the partition needs to be deleted which would wipe out my data.

The only way I know of other than deleting the partitions and starting over is this:

Use Ghost or another utility to "clone" your original 40gb master drive to one of the 200gb drives. Adjust the partition sizes accordingly with the utility as part of the clone process or after the fact with Partition Magic. Then you can make the 200gb drive your master, introduce the second 200gb drive onto the RAID controller and build it as a mirror.

thanks glc, I ordered a DVD burner to make the image with ghost. I tried with CD but I only got to 20% and it took about 5cds already. I thought the rebuild might work. I'll let you know if I need more help.

No, don't make an image. Ghost should have a clone function. If not, you can use the utility from the hard drive manufacturer (Maxblast, WD DLG, etc.).
