ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe: trouble with WLAN Utility, might be memory compatibility issue?

Hi all,

I put together my first PC, and I'm quite happy of the result so far, but there's ONE thing that's really bugging me, and I don't know what else to try. I wonder if you have any advice.

Here it is. My PC is:

Antec Sonata Case
ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe motherboard
Corsair VS512MBKIT533D2 (Speed: PC2-4200 / Size:512MB / Organization:2x32Mx64 / Package: 240 DIMM)
VGA GIGABYTE GV-NX57128D PCX5750
CPU P4/2.8 GHz 800M LGA775 520
FD 1.44MB|MITSUMI FA404A/404M
HD 200GB| SEAGATE 7200 ST3200822AS
CDRW/DVD COMBO52X32X52X16|LITE-ON
DVD+/-RW PLEXTOR|PX-712A
WINDOWS XP PRO w/SP1a

Everything runs smoothly.. almost. When I install the ASUS WLAN Utility (necessary to turn my PC into a software Access Point), at the next reboot my PC freezes. Completely. Always.

This happened in all of the following circumstances:

1) With just windows XP Pro SP1a installed, and the ASUS drives/utilities ONLY. It freezes.
2) With all of the MS patches, including SP2, installed from Windows Update. It still freezes.
3) With a bunch of apps installed on top of it. It freezes.

However:

1) If I DISABLE the WLAN hardware from the bios, the PC works fine, with or without the Utility installed. Of course, I have no WLAN
2) If I UNINSTALL the darn WLAN Utility, the WLAN hardware SEEMS to be working (I can't test it), because in fact Windows Update sees it and automatically installs the driver. The problem at this point is that, without the ASUS Utility, I don't know how to use it as an Access Point to share my DSL cable with my home notebook.

I spent LONG hours with ASUS support on the phone running all sorts of tests. No success, all they are left wiht is to RMA the mobo and send me a new one. but I highly doubt it will solve the issue.

I only have one more nagging thought. Could it be the corsair memory? Again, everything works smootly without the ASUS WLAN Utility...

HELP!

Thanks!
Alex

ASUS P5GD2 Deluxe WLAN Soft AP feature doesn't work (don't buy)

Same thing happened to me. Have had no response from Asus after countless e-mails. (I won't buy their products again)

From what I can gather, the easiest thing would be to return the mobo and consider a cheaper one and put the savings towards a external AP.
